Terms & conditions
Terms and conditions
These are the rules of the White Island website: what you can do on it, what you get when you buy a founder spot and what happens if something goes wrong. They’re written to be understood the first time. If something still isn’t clear, ask at info@whiteislandgame.com before you buy. How you can use the game is in the license, and who is responsible for the website, in the legal notice.
Accepting these terms
Using the website, creating an account or buying a spot means you accept what’s written here. If you don’t agree with something, it’s best not to use it, and if you have doubts, ask first.
If you buy as a consumer, nothing here takes away the rights the law gives you. If anything here ever clashed with them, they win.
Your account
- Your account is how you join the community, buy your spot and download the game.
- You must be at least 14 years old.
- The details you give must be real, and the email address must be yours: that’s where account notices and receipts arrive.
- Your password is yours alone; don’t share it. From your profile you can add a second verification step, and if you’re a founder it’s a good idea.
- The account is personal. The founder spot is tied to it and can’t be passed on to anyone else.
- You can delete your account whenever you want from your profile. If you’re a founder, your spot goes with it: your number isn’t given to anyone else, but it can’t be recovered either.
The community
The community has its own rules, in the #normas channel. In short: treat people well, don’t spoil surprises for others and don’t come here to advertise.
- What you write or upload —topics, comments, ideas, images— is still yours. By posting it, you give us permission to show it on the website and in its app for as long as it stays posted.
- Ideas suggested in #ideas are just that, ideas. If one ends up in the game, we’re genuinely grateful, but it doesn’t give anyone the right to be paid or to decide how it’s done.
- Votes in #actualizaciones and #ideas help us know what people want and plan the work. They carry a lot of weight, but the final say on what goes into the game, and when, belongs to the person making it.
- Whoever posts something is responsible for it. Anything that breaks the rules or the law can be removed.
What you can’t do
- Insult, harass or threaten anyone.
- Post illegal or adult content, or content that isn’t yours and that you don’t have permission to share.
- Advertise other games, channels or services.
- Pretend to be someone else, or the person making the game.
- Try to get in where you shouldn’t, scrape data from the website in bulk or do anything that slows it down or breaks it.
- Share or resell your activation key or the game installer.
- Cheat in challenges or giveaways.
If it happens, we talk first. If it carries on, what was posted is removed, and if it still carries on, the account is closed. Closing an account for this doesn’t entitle you to a refund.
The founder spot
One-off payment, taxes included. There’s no maximum number of spots. The price goes up in tiers depending on the founder number you get, and the price charged is the one shown on the founders page at the moment you pay:
- Founders 1 to 10: €6.95.
- 11 to 100: €8.95.
- 101 to 1,000: €10.95.
- 1,001 onwards: €14.95.
- Without a founder spot, the game will sell at its normal price, €24.95.
Buying a spot gets you:
- The full game when it’s released, and its updates.
- A founder number, in order of arrival, assigned when the payment is confirmed and never reused.
- Access to the playable versions during development.
- Access to the community’s private channels.
- A founder badge and your name in the game’s credits.
- Founders 1 to 1,000 also get their name scattered around the game world. Founders 1 to 100, on the game’s monument too. Founders 1 to 10, on the plane as well.
What we want to make clear
- The game is in development. It comes out first in early access, with new versions every so often, so it can be played while it’s being finished. What you’re buying is a game in progress, not a finished one, and there’s no committed date for the final version.
- Everything in the list above goes to everyone who buys a spot, with no draw and no conditions. The only thing the tier changes is where your name ends up inside the game.
- Challenges and giveaways are separate and don’t go to everyone. They’re announced in the community’s #retos channel, with their rules: who can enter, how you win or how the winner is chosen, until when and —when the prize is money— how and when it’s paid. The winner is announced in that same channel. Taking part in them isn’t what you’re buying when you get a spot.
- Anything announced as “in the works” isn’t part of what you’re buying. The website mentions that we’re working on ways for playing to earn money. It’s work in progress, with no date or conditions, and buying a spot gives you no rights over it.
- Earnings programs for founders are explained inside the community and have their own terms, which are published there before each one starts. In the meantime, a tally of each founder’s activity is kept, and that tally on its own doesn’t entitle you to any payment.
- The exact form of the appearances inside the game may change if development requires it. What doesn’t change is that the name is there and that the number is the one it is.
How to buy
The spot is bought on the founders page, with a website account. The payment is handled by Stripe, by card or with the other methods it offers at the time: your card details go straight to Stripe and never pass through this website. The price is in euros and includes taxes. From outside the eurozone, the founders page shows you the price in your currency, converted at the day’s exchange rate and rounded to a convenient figure, and that’s exactly what you’re charged. The euro prices on this page are the reference.
Before you pay, Stripe asks you to accept these terms and to confirm that you want to start using your spot right away (what that changes is under “Refunds”). The purchase is complete when Stripe confirms the charge: at that moment you’re given your founder number and the receipt arrives by email.
When you get each thing
- As soon as you pay: your number, your badge and the community’s private channels.
- The development versions: downloaded from your profile, in the “El juego” tab, as soon as each one is released.
- The full game: from the same place, when it’s released.
- Your name inside the game: with the game.
The development versions
Until the game is finished, what you download are development versions: the game as it is that day. They’re exactly that, unfinished versions. They may have bugs, change a lot from one to the next or stop doing something they used to do, and some may ask you to start a new game. It’s part of playing a game that’s still being made.
Each new version appears in your profile, under “El juego”, and what it brings is explained in the #builds channel. The idea is to release one a week, but that’s not a date commitment: it comes out when it’s ready.
What you need to play
The game is for PC, with 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 and a dedicated graphics card. The full requirements, minimum and recommended, are in the FAQ: check them before you buy. The mobile version is something else, simpler, and isn’t part of what you’re buying.
If you’re a minor
You must be at least 14 to create an account. To buy, if you’re a minor, you need permission from your parent or guardian, and they are responsible for the purchase.
Refunds
You have 14 days from purchase to ask for your money back, as long as you’ve played less than 2 hours. The hours are the ones recorded by the game itself.
To request it, write to us from the support page while signed in, or send an email to info@whiteislandgame.com from the address of the account you bought with, with the subject “Devolución” (refund), and tell us why you want to return it. Knowing that helps us improve the game.
You get back everything you paid within 14 days of asking, by the same method you paid with. The refund cancels the spot: you lose the founder channels and the downloads, and the number isn’t used again.
This is this website’s refund policy, and it takes the place of the statutory right of withdrawal: when you pay, you agree to start using your spot at that very moment —the channels, the number, the versions— and, as with any digital content you start using, the right of withdrawal then no longer applies.
If something doesn’t work
If something you’ve bought doesn’t work as described here, you also have the guarantees the law gives for digital content. Write to us: it gets fixed, and if it can’t be fixed, the price is reduced or refunded.
Changes to the website and to these terms
The website, the community and these terms may change as the game grows. If something important changes, it’s announced on the website before it applies. A purchase is governed by the terms in force on the day you paid.
The website may be unavailable for a while, for maintenance or because of a fault. We try to make that rare and short.
Liability
We take care of the website and the game, but we can’t promise they’ll never fail, least of all while they’re in development. We’re not responsible for what other people post in the community or for websites linked from here. None of this limits what the law doesn’t allow to be limited.
Applicable law and complaints
Spanish law applies. If you have a problem, write to us first: almost everything gets sorted that way. If the answer doesn’t satisfy you, you can turn to the consumer services of your region or to the courts that apply under consumer law, which are usually those where you live.
